NC American Indian Breast Health Survey
- The Carolina Mammography Registry
(CMR) in collaboration with the NC Commission of Indian Affairs is conducting
a special survey among American Indian women age 40 and over in North
Carolina. The study will be used to measure how Indian women view mammography
and to learn what kinds of factors put Indian women at risk for breast
cancer. For more information, contact Jada Locklear (Lumbee), Ursula
Tsosie (Navajo), or Dr. Bonnie C. Yankaskas at 919.966.0492. You may
also e-mail Jada or Ursula.
North
Carolina Council for Women and Domestic Violence Commission
The NC Council for Women and Domestic
Violence Commission has recently visited 10 North Carolina American Indian
Tribes and Organizations to find out more about the needs in the Native
American community and to create an awareness of the commission and its
services. They also provided copies of the publication "Domestic
Violence and the Law" that includes a specific section for American
Indian North Carolinians. This publication can be accessed in PDF form
by clicking on the hyperlinked title. The commission is currently reviewing
information gathered during their visits and will identify opportunities
for collaboration and cross-referral and enhanced service programs between
and by local domestic violence, sexual assault, and displaced homemake
programs and NC American Indian Tribes and Organizations. The final report
will be given in the Fall of 2004. This report will be sent to all NC
Tribes and Organizations identified by the NC Commission of Indian Affairs.
